CRAIG Edwards branded himself and his players “useless” following their 3-0 defeat at Bury Town on Saturday.

The out-spoken Billericay manager said that only midfielder Micah Hyde and full-back Greg Oates could walk away from the game with any credit.

Edwards said: “We were useless, from back to front. I’m not going to use the break for the weather as an excuse because we were poor from the start.

“It was our worst performance since I came to the club.

“Bury had four chances and scored three goals. And they were all early Christmas gifts from us.

“I expect a big reaction from my players against Harrow and, if they have got anything about them, I will get it.”

Billericay could move back into the play-off positions tonight with a win over Harrow Borough at New Lodge.

Edwards said his players did not do enough on Saturday to pick-up any new injuries.

Hakeem Araba’s 90th minute penalty rescued a point for Town when the two sides met in the reverse fixture in September.

Billericay are coming off back-to-back defeats for their first time this season, although the 4-2 loss at Sutton in the FA Trophy was three snow-interupted weeks before Saturday’s league defeat to Bury Town.

Harrow are currently 15th in the Ryman Premier. They have two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six games; their latest outing on Sunday ended in an impressive 3-1 win over third-placed Kingstonian.

Canvey host Lowestoft Town tonight and are likely to make changes to the side knocked out of the Ryman league cup by lower-league Heybridge Swifts on Saturday.

Alex Rhodes, Jay Curran, Frank Everett, and Jason Hallett could all return to the starting line-up for Gulls, who need a win to stay in touching distance of the top five.

Lowestoft start the game two points off of the play-off places, but they have at least three games in hand on all their rivals.

A Jay Curran equaliser earned Canvey a point when the sides met at Crown Meadow in October.

CONCORD will look to cement their position as the highest placed of our local sides in the Ryman Premier when they travel to eleventh-placed Tonbridge Angels.

The Beachboys moved into sixth with an excellent 4-2 win at Carshalton on Saturday, and a win tonight would take them into the play-off places.

Concord lost 2-1 when the sides met at Thames Road in September.

In Ryman One north, John Coventry’s table-topping East Thurrock side will make the short trip to sixth-placed Romford.

And in the Essex Senior Cup, GREAT WAKERING go to Brentwood, GRAYS are at Stansted, and HULLBRIDGE SPORTS host Heybridge Swifts.
