BENFLEET student Bradley Warner has national success in his sights after making the English Colleges Football Association’s national squad.

The 18-year-old was one of two students from Thundersley’s Seevic College who made it through to the final selection stage for the squad.

He will now represent English Colleges FA (ECFA) in their match against Wales at the New Saints Stadium in Oswestry, Shropshire.

But Bradley’s team-mate Remi Sutton, 18, from Ingatestone, was unsuccessful following the trials at Lilleshall, although he is on the reserve list to cover for withdrawals.

Completing the Seevic presence at the two-day trial was SCORE (Soccer Coaching Open Route to Education) coach Laurie Carter, who is a member of the ECFA national squad coaching staff.

He managed the South of England team that featured Bradley and Remi in two matches against the other trialist representing the North of England. “All the boys that took part were a credit to themselves and their colleges in the way that they conducted themselves over the weekend,” said Carter.

“Considering the icy conditions and snow laden pitch for the second game, the standard of football was excellent.”

Bradley and Remi were among 30 footballers invited to the national traning complex for a weekend of traning, presentations from coaching staff and matches.

The SCORE scheme gives talented footballers the opportunity to combine full-time post-16 education with training from FA qualified coaches.

>Seevic College could have a second player competing at national level if Emma Sherwood is successful at her trial.

Emma is on the SCORE programme and has been selected for the British Colleges Sport national football trials at Lilleshall from December 17 to 19.
