BURSTEAD SENIORS: The weather in recent weeks has made it impossible to play the December Medal and it was also necessary to postpone the Christmas Competition.

Several of the hardier seniors ventured forth to play in a non-competition event in the icy conditions.

But the more sensible decided to turn up just for the Christmas Lunch.

Sixty seniors and guests attended the lunch followed by the presentation to the winners during the year.

The Presidents Cup is awarded to the player with the best five medal rounds during 2010.

This was one by John Morris who maintained a level of consistency in the medals throughout the year.

The Steve Waring Prize for the five best medal scores on the par three was won by Dave O'Connell.

This year the Seniors Captain, John Fogwill, introduced a new trophy for the player who was most consistent in all competitions through the year.

This award went to Dave Dowsey (playing off handicap 12) who astounded everyone including himself when he made par on the first nine holes in a recent competition.

However, this was not just a one off because he played well throughout the year to be awarded this new trophy. The Birdie Table went to Lou Rayner with 17 birdies and the Listless Trophy for the nine holers was won by John Sach.

The Eclectic Trophy for the year was won by Tony Smythe with a nett score of 53 strokes compared with the par of 71 for the course.

John Fogwill had an excellent year as Seniors Captain for 2010 and hands over to Peter Hannaway in January.

Hannaway is still recovering from a broken leg which happened in treacherous conditions in October.

Hopefully he will be fit enough to complete the Captain's Drive-in in the New Year.
