MAX Crumpton says he is proud to have helped England’s under 18 team enjoy an unbeaten tour of Australia.

England won all three of their matches Down Under.

And Hadleigh’s Crumpton was delighted to play a prominent part in the success, scoring tries in two of the triumphs.

“It was absolutely brilliant and went really well,” said Crumpton, a former King John School pupil.

“We started off really well and put in some good performances.

“I was also happy to get a couple of tries but just pulling on the England jersey is the main highlight for me.

“I’m prepared to go out there and die for my country and that’s the attitude I take on to the pitch so it meant everything for us to win all of the games.”

England started their tour with a 19-8 win over the Australian under 19 Academy.

Crumpton came off the bench during that game but then started the next encounter and scored a try as England trounced Australia A 27-0.

Following that he also touched down in the main match of the tour against Australia Schools, which England won 46-19 as they again produced another fine performance.

“Australia were desperate to beat us and were flying their players in from all over to play against us so we really did do well,” said Crumpton.

“The first match was against a team a year older than us too so winning that did wonders for our confidence and set us up nicely for the rest of the tour.”

Crumpton had previously represented England at under 16 level.

And he will now work towards earning more international call ups.

“The next chance to be picked is the under 19s and I would love to get selected,” said Crumpton, who played locally with Westcliff before joining Premiership giants Saracens.

“It’s a big year for me though as it’s my last one at college and that means I need to impress to try and earn myself a professional contract with Saracens which is what I’m really working hard to try and achieve.”
