SEVENTY-TWO cadets from all over Essex came to Thorpe Hall to compete for the annual Cadets Open.

The competition was strokeplay and there were five players with net scores of 67.

On countback, the winner was Toby Gibbons, of Thorpe Hall, with a gross 72 off five handicap followed by Billy Hanna (Maylands, 75 off eight h/c), Jonathan Hewitt (Clacton, 69 off two h/c), Zachery Chedwiddin (Orsett 79 off 12 h/c), Connor Hammond (Orsett, 83 off 16 h/c), Elizabeth Hatch (the Warren, gross 90, off 22 h/c) and Freddie Lawrence (Thorpe Hall, a net 69, off eight h/c).

The top gross scores were Jonathan Hewitt (Clacton, 69), Toby Gibbons (Thorpe Hall, 72), and Daniel Rigby (Orsett, 73).

On Saturday, the men played their monthly medal and on Sunday, the Stableford.

In division one of the medal, Tony Walker, with a net 68, was alone at the top, with a handicap reduction to seven.

Greg Taylor, David Snowdon and Tom Wells all had net 69s, but on countback, the runner-up was Taylor.

Only Tom Wells managed a handicap reduction to six out of this group but Neill Johns, with a net 70, in fifth place, has been reduced to 10 handicap.

Michael Coles, was the winner of Division Two, with a net 68 and has been cut one to 19.

Gary Lockett was the runner-up, with a net 69, off 14 handicap ( now 13), on countback from Martin Maynard.

In the Stableford, Simon Goy, with 38 points is back to his old ways off two handicap, from James Glenross, with 36 points off seven handicap.

In Division Two, John Jackson, with 42 points, has now come down to 13 handicap.
