THE cream came to the top in Rochford Hundred’s biggest competition in the club’s calendar – a 36-hole scratch and handicap day on Sunday.

Nearly 100 teed-up and the much coveted scratch prize went to Rochford’s best player – Jimmy Dale who plays off plus two.

Dale opened up with a two under par gross 69 and followed that in the afternoon with a superb 67 which blew all the opposition away.

Three other players equalled Dale’s opening round – Rob Moss, Matt Fearn and Steve Weidner – but in the end his 136 total was five ahead of runner-up Weidner with Paul Birrell third on 142.

Rob Moss won the handicap title for the second year running when an amazing net 62 in the morning saw his handicap come down two to five, and followed that with a 72 to finish ahead of Graham Collins and Nigel Mathers both on 137.

Paul Francis had an expensive day when his third hole in one on the 154-yard seventh where he hit a six iron cost him a big bar bill after buying the traditional drink for everybody.

Rochford held their Saturday medal, a Stableford, with Chris Day winning division one with 38 points one more than Josh Marney and Jake Wells.

Darren Jones came down two shots to 12 after his 41 points won division two from Tom Nicol (39) and Keith Oldfield (38).

Roy Fallis notched 36 points which was good enough to take division three from Graham West (34) and Norman Ives (33).

Rochford’s weekly midweek Stableford qualifier for the Scott Spencwer Trophy was won by Nigel Mathers on 43 points – four more than Robert Bryan and Gary Matthews.
